Mort Stein

Morton M. Stein was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. After graduating with a business degree from Kent State University, Mort spent a number of years working successfully in the life insurance business. In 1972, Mort saw a need for fee-based risk management services and made the bold move to leave his steady job and start Brunswick Insurance Agency. For more than 45 years, Mort witnessed the many changes of the industry, providing valuable insights to Brunswick’s management team and was a source of knowledge for all units of the company. With his inventive entrepreneurial spirit, he never stopped thinking of ways to grow the business or how to protect and service their clients. As the founder of Brunswick Companies, he was highly respected by his clients and business relationships nationwide. As the business continued to grow, Mort, with his endless energy and infectious smile, loved walking around the office to stay connected with the employees.

Generous with time and charitable donations, Mort served on many boards including Weaver Industries, Equitable of Iowa Insurance Company and Akron Jewish Community Center, a past president of Akron’s B’nai B’rith Men’s Club, the Akron representative to the Menorah Park board of trustees, visionary committee member of the University Case Western Reserve Hospitals in Cleveland, and a past campaign chair for the Akron Jewish Community Federation. Mort also served as a longtime television host for the Akron Jewish Community’s Civic Forum (Forum 360), where he interviewed many dignitaries and highlighted current events.

Mort was happily married to Geraldine (Brown) Stein for over 62 years and very active in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a sports enthusiast who loved to play golf and watch Cleveland sports, Ohio State football, as well as his children and grandchildren’s sporting activities.
